                In 1933, German Lutheran pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer released his essay "The Church and the Jewish Question" in response to the implementation of the Aryan paragraph, which excluded Jews and Slovaks from being members of organizations and professions that adopted the law. Bonhoeffer observed that God has divinely mandated the state (aka government) to maintain law and order. The church is not responsible in questioning how the state maintains law and order UNLESS the state ceases being the state; this happens when there is too little law and order or too much law and order. Too little law/order occurs when a group of people are deprived of their rights while too much law/order occurs when the state robs the church and Christians from their right to proclaim the message of the gospel. A New Thing Springs Forth: The Next Leg of the Voyage

After twenty-eight years of The Bridge Church being my central tribe, it's time to spread my wings. A couple weeks ago, God opened up the opportunity for me to be the next Youth Director at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fresno. After much prayer and introspection, I accepted the position. I officially wrap up at The Bridge in a couple weeks and begin at Trinity Lutheran in June. A part of me is quite excited for this new opportunity. A part of me is still dumbfounded that this is happening. A part of me is also sad because I am leaving something that has been familiar my whole life--a place that has been my home and people who have been my family. Although The Bridge will always be my "home church" and the people at The Bridge will always be my family, the relationship is shifting in this new season. So why a Lutheran church? Know Who You Are

Last night I had the opportunity to watch Moana , a movie I was hoping to eventually watch because I love most things Disney (thanks to my mother for that). In all honesty, I absolutely loved it and all of its cheesy goodness. Simply, it was a movie about discovering one's identity and whether identity is to be shaped by cultural expectations or to be shaped by who one believes they are. My favorite part of the movie happens towards the end of a particular scene between Moana and the main antagonist, Te Ka. **WARNING--SPOILER ALERT: IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE AND PLAN ON WATCHING IT, PLEASE SKIP TO THE NEXT PARAGRAPH** In this scene, after Moana realizes something special about Te Ka, she steps down to the shore and asks the sea to allow Te Ka to come to her. The sea splits and clears a path, which then music cues and Te Ka and Moana proceed to move towards each other.
